Alexandra Park Map

Alexandra Park (also called Atkinson Co-op) is a low-income housing area in downtown Toronto, bordered by Spadina, Dundas, Bathurst and Queen Streets. It is made up of townhouses and apartment buildings. The area has improved in recent years, but is still dealing with many challenges, including poverty, family problems, low education levels, illiteracy, drugs, crime, gangs, and shootings.

The ministry to children in Alexandra Park was started by several Christians from different churches and denominations, who were concerned about the at-risk children in that area. It was based on the ministry of Bill Wilson and his KIDS Church outreach in the poorest areas of New York City (Metro Ministries). It is overseen by All Nations Christian Fellowship, a Christian Reformed Church that meets in the Lighthouse Community Centre at 1008 Bathurst St. KIDS Church is coordinated by Pauline Ho, and run with the help of volunteers (including KIDS Church “graduates”).

KIDS Church

KIDS Church started meeting in the summer of 1993, under a picnic shelter on the Felecian Sisters’ property at 25 Augusta Ave. A few months later, when the weather turned cold, the Sisters let KIDS Church use their space at the St. Felix Centre. It met there for several years, until renovations forced a move to another building. When that building was torn down a few years ago, KC moved back to the St. Felix Centre. Other activities for the children include Bible Studies, singing, drama, and sports. Children are taken on outings, sent to summer camp, and visited regularly at their homes.

KIDS Church is geared towards children ages 5 – 12. As children reach their teens, they are encouraged to stay involved by becoming volunteers. These “leaders-in-training” are very enthusiastic and helpful. They really enjoy volunteering, and it is a great opportunity for them to learn responsibility and develop leadership skills.

Description: A ministry to children, youth, and families in downtown Toronto. The Alexandra Park Child and Youth Outreach seeks to share the gospel with children and youth in fun ways, to disciple and mentor them, to build positive relationships with them and their families, and to respond in practical ways to needs that arise. The outreach includes a Saturday morning KIDS Church, visiting families at their homes, taking children on outings, training youth to be leaders, and helping send children to camp.

"We believe that each child is a unique and precious creation of God, and that all children deserve to know that they are loved by Him. Our goal is to teach children God’s Word, with the hope that they will develop a relationship with Jesus Christ, and have their lives transformed by Him. We hope to inspire them to follow Him all their days, and to use the gifts He has given them for His glory."
